Find the best DNS
Today in ##ruby-br channel, @diegorv send me an excellent tip, a program called namebench do several tests on some DNS to find the faster. I've had an improvement of 69%.
If you want to try "by hand" in Linux, then install the package dnsutils, after you should have dig(/usr/bin/dig) command. Usage is simply, dig any-site @ip-of-dns. Here my test, comparing my new default DNS and the DNS of Google.

Attention to Query time, here the second DNS of Brasil Telecom(my ISP) is 25% faster than the Google, but you must remember the geographical distance.
See here too.
Namebench is available in AUR(for Arch Linux users) and in getdeb.net(Caution: Outdated by today's date) for Ubuntu/Kubuntu users.

KDE Air theme for Chromium/Google Chrome
Chromium is already being used by thousands of people. Now, with the release of Google Chrome for Linux things should be hot. But there is still a problem, the theme. The theme is the most important visual part in the browser. That's what gives the first browser sight. The default theme of Chromium/Chrome is blue, cute and clean, but I'm a KDE SC User and definitely the theme does not match with the system. You feel a little strange to use the program, it seems that something came out from the system way, such as when telling a joke in a horror movie, but it can be easily resolved.
You just need to download the Air theme for Chromium, available in KDE-Look.org
I am actually using it for 17 days and am very pleased. Feels like the browser is now part of the Plasma, only menus and dialog options are not changed, but you can change it using the KDE SC Theme QtCurve and forcing him to GTK2, but that is for another post:)
You may also like the Sky theme, it's blue-ish and cute too. That's up to you. :)

Games in Arch Linux
Looking at forum of Arch Linux I found this topic, already has more than a year, but... who cares? :)
What these guys did was basically get all the games that are in AUR and are not in the repository community, compile them and make available in a repository, saving us from having to compile and keep looking for updates on AUR.
To add the repository + mirrors put this on /etc/pacman.conf:
[arch-games] Include = /etc/pacman.d/archgames_mirrorlist
Create /etc/pacman.d/archgames_mirrorlist and put this:
Server = http://arch.twilightlair.net/games/$ARCH Server = http://pseudoform.org/arch-games/games/$ARCH Server = http://repo.exigen.org/arch/games/$ARCH
Where $ARCH is i686 or x86_64(run arch)
The first is the main repository, the other 2 are the active mirrors until today's date.
See the site ;)
If you search for games to Ubuntu/Kubuntu see in UbuntuGames.org.

Installing Kubuntu Karmic Koala(9.10)(with images !)
I'll describe here how you can easily install Kubuntu in your PC.
First, download ISO here, unfortunately only have DVD version.
Burn it, and boot. It will ask about language.
After selected the language Portugues do Brasil(Portuguese of Brazil, my default language), press enter. Now select Install Kubuntu and press enter again.
It may take a while to load, it all depends on your computer and the media used.
At the end of boot you will be asked (again) on the language. What you chose is already chosen by default, press Next.
He will try to get the current time, just a little patience.
After getting it, you will be asked about the time zone, in my case, Porto Velho/Rondônia
Next will be the turn of the keyboard layout, because I'm using the language Portuguese of Brazil it defines the default brazilian layout(abnt2) by default
Finally the most delicate, in that case let him use the whole disk, if you need to do different then search on google how to do this
Now it will ask the User Information, fill name and it will automatically put your first name as login (you can change it), put your password, repeat it, put a name to your computer and in bottom, select the options you want, as in my computer is used only a User, I chose Automatically sign.
If you use a weak password like me, will be shown a window warning about it. It is possible to ignore it, but it is advisable to place a stronger password
At this point you are at the last step that requires human administration. With all the information that will be done, you should look and see if everything is right and press Install, otherwise press Back, and fix it.
The first thing he will do is fix the partitioning, this point, you can go for a ride:)
After partitioning it will calculate which files should be copied.
In 80% it will configure apt and download the translations, if you are connected to the Internet. If you prefer you can cancel this part.
Finally the end, time to restart and configure :)

Removing the trash of system
Garbage, garbage, garbage ...
Something that everyone has somewhere but no one likes. Consumes space, can leave slower and usually not useful.
Doing this manually is really a torture like to watch the cure for insomnia(ok, it's a joke)
In this case the best thing to do is to automate the task. Why not? After all, that time saved you can leave with his wife.
Recently I did a script for this, but it is somewhat basic, let's see something more complete.
Let's talk about Bleachbit (no, I'm talking about Bleach).
It removes unnecessary files or at least not as useful for the space occupied, it does so in both the system files and on more than 50 apps
Some widely used as Firefox, Amule, Java (Argh!), Internet Explorer (no, do not tell me you use), etc, etc, etc...
First, let's install:
- Arch Linux: yaourt -S bleachbit
- Ubuntu: apt-get install bleachbit
- Fedora: yum install bleachbit
- Windows: Go to site and finds a way
See, was not so difficult (unless you use a certain system that makes you have to go to the site and download manually) on your menu should have 2 icons in system (if you use the system mentioned above, it should be in the middle of 316,327 entries that have their menu), one is to throw as normal User and the other as root (if you use "commom system" not worry, you do not mess with this thing called 'root', it is only responsible for preventing viruses steal your passwords and screw up your computer). With the root (which unfortunately has no powers of super-cow) you can also remove files from the system, it helps to have a thorough cleaning (especially if you have a pentium 4 that due to overheating caused by temperature 30 ~ 37 ° C (HERE IS HELL!) arrives to make a log of 100mb/hour).
As you can see on the screen it gives several options, and they appear only if needed, for example, does not appear the option of aMSN if I do not have cache of it :)

Gelide, front-end for multiple emulators!
If you are a lover of ROMs and emulators, you'll love the Gelide. He is a file cataloger that organizes the ROMs on your computer in a list organized by platform, which facilitates access to them.
It has a complete list of many of the most popular emulators platforms, such Atari, Amstrad, Game Boy, Mame, Mega Drive, Nes and Nintendo 64. As for ROMs, you can sort them by year of release, name, note by the User, among others.
Gelide also allows you to configure emulators that accept configuration command. He saves these settings so you do not have to keep typing them each time you open the emulator.
Source: Baixaki(Portuguese of Brazil)
Remember, the Gelide is NOT an emulator, just a front-end (GUI) to organize your ROMs, when open a ROM it simply calls the selected emulator with some options to run :)
Here some screens:
For more Screens see here
There are packages of it in the AUR (For users of ArchLinux, DEB version (For users of Debian based Distros like Ubuntu. Please note that the version of that. Deb is 0.1.1) and source code (requires gtkmm, gconfmm and libxml2 to compile)
